Tips from Hrvix

Kickstart is a plug-in for ducking AKA side-chaining. I've created 3 presets for 3 respective modes: Audio for Audio trigger mode, MIDI for MIDI trigger mode, and Sync for Sync mode. I've saved these presets in Reaper's RPL format as well as VST3 format. VST3 format is useful if you want to import these presets in a DAW other than Reaper. "VST3 Presets" folder is located under Documents folder on Windows (not sure for MAC).

The RPL can be applied to VST3 version of Kickstart 2.

How to Duck Audio

Audio trigger mode is a new feature in version Kickstart 2. To use it, do the following:

  1. Add Kickstart 2 to your BASS track. Assuming that You've already coppied or imported my presets, select Audio in plugin's Presets Combo Box.
  2. On your Bass track, press I to go to the Routing dialog, Tab until you reach Track channels Combo Box and change it to 4. Then exit routing dialog. These new channels, 3 and4, are what Kickstart listens to for a side-chain signal.
  3. On a Kick track, create new send to the Bass track. To do this, press Alt+Applications key, arrow down to Sends Submenu, arrow down to the Bass track and press Enter. Alternatively you could stay focused on your BASS track and create a receive from the KICK track instead.
  4. Still on a Kick track, press I for Routing Dialog, Tab until you reach our send to the Bass track (it will say something like "Send to track 1 "Bass" (4 ch): Delete Button"). Then press the Applications key, arrow down to Destination Audio Channel and Press Enter, then arrow down to 3/4 and finally press Enter again. Alternatively if your OSARA is up to date, you can change the destination channels by hitting Alt+P on either of the tracks.
