Our community collection of accessible presets for the free Labs series from Spitfire had fallen way behind, so I (Scott) have gone through and incorporated all updates and new instruments (62 libraries and several hundred patches). The cleanest way to get us up to date basically involved starting over from scratch, and that was quite an undertaking, so I'm going to pop a donation link later in this document. If you're willing and able to support the time this took, that will be much appreciated, but first, let's make sure you know how to use the goodies!
Importing the RPL files.
- Download a copy of the current RPL files, then unzip the folder.
- Make sure you're running REAPER 6.78 or newer. This step is necessary if you want to import multiple RPL files in one shot, and with this many instruments, trust me, you do want that. :D
- Instantiate Labs VSTI on a track. Be sure to choose the VSTI plug-in, these presets won't work with the VST3I version).
- In the FX window, tab until you find the "Preset and performance management" button, hit Shift+Space on it and choose "Import preset library" from the context menu.
- Browse to the RPL files, either the ones stashed in Dropbox or to a local copy you've downloaded. Choose the specific Labs instruments you have installed using non-contiguous selection keystrokes native to whichever operating system you use, or just select all and hit Enter if you've got the entire Labs collection installed.
- That's the import done, but wait, there's one more step that's worth doing for extra convenience. Move to the presets combo box and you'll find it still says "Program 1", REAPER's default entry. This is right at the bottom of what is now a long list of presets. Hit Dash, your screen reader will say "User presets". Hit DownArrow once and you'll be on the topmost preset. Tab once to the "Preset and performance management" button again, hit Shift+Space on it again, and this time, choose "Save preset as default" from the context menu. Once you've done that, Labs will automatically load the topmost preset in future, then you can start working your way through the sounds from the top down.
Supporting this effort
As explained up top, getting this collection up to date and split out into individual instruments was a boat load of work! If you find these useful and you're in a position where you can buy me a coffee or two, please consider supporting me with a PayPal donation.
As with all of the community stuff I contribute, donation is entirely optional. Any and all contributions that help to support my time are super appreciated. However, if you can't support the effort financially, you can still help me out big time by making sure other REAPER users who need these presets get ahold of them. Feel free to repost, redistribute, whatever will be useful.
