# How to use RPL files. RPL stands for Reaper Preset Library. We use these files to provide accessible versions of factory presets when those are difficult or impossible to load in some third-party effects and instruments. 1. Download the RPL file for an effect or instrument that you have installed. 2. In REAPER, load the relevant effect or instrument on a track or take. 3. In REAPER's FX window, hit Tab until you reach the "Presets and Performance Management" button. 4. Hit Shift+Space on the button and a menu will pop up. Choose the "Import preset library" option. 5. You'll find yourself in a standard Open dialog. Browse to and hit Enter on the RPL file you want to import. If it's a large collection of presets, your computer might hang for a few seconds while REAPER imports the library. Once done, you'll land back in the FX window. At this point, you should find that your Presets combo box is populated with new goodies. Once you've followed the steps above, the presets will be stored in your resource path. You don't need to keep the RPL file you downloaded, unless you want to for backup purposes. Bonus tip: many of the RPL files created within our community have a bit of extra navigation built in. Typically, hitting numbers along the top row of the keyboard will jump through categories, and hitting Dash will jump to the next subfolder. ## Adding new presets: If you have presets to contribute to the collection, please add them to the Uploads folder and an admin will move them into place.
